AION
This work aims to unfold four abandoned spaces inside the zone of exclusion in Chernobyl, Ukraine. It deals with a sonic and visual experience of time, absence, and change - in an area haunted by an inaudible danger, amidst the slowly decaying remains of human civilization.

METASTASEIS
Inspired by the combination of an Einsteinian view of time, mathematical ideas by Le Corbusier and Xenakis' memory of the sounds of warfare, Metastaseis [1953-1954] fully embodied the relations between music and architecture. In fact, the design with its' hyperbolic paraboloids, references of the Golden Section and Fibonacci sequence, ended up being the basis for the '58 Philips Pavilion. Sebastian Janusz' interpretation of Metastaseis for piano, computer and on-screen presentation will form a musical introduction to Sven Sterken's lecture ‘The Thoughts of Xenakis and the Relation between his Music and Architecture’.

NOW & HEAR
Sound architecture of the twentieth century dealt with the questions as to what was auditorily perceived in an existing architectural environment and how it was perceived. With the common use of portable personal sound devices [mp3 players, walkmans, mobile phones, etc.] each individual could create a sound environment on its own. Taking the entrance of the Academy building as a starting point, this project questions the sonic reality and how this affects the social experience of urban space.

DOUBLE SWAY
A brief intervention of recursive eventfulness where sounds circulate between properties of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, ideas of temporal presence and techniques of audio amplification. Taking the location of the atrium as the starting point, “Double Sway” gestures towards an audible sustain of situations in sway.
After each lecture during the Capita Selecta series Music, Space & Architecture there is shadow program organized with concerts and performances, curated by Sebastian Janusz and Machiel Spaan, with work by Justin Bennett, Raviv Ganchrow, Sebastian Janusz, Jacob Kirkegaard and Iannis Xenakis.

SUNDIAL
Sundial is a series of works which analyze the daily rhythm of a particular city. During 24 hours, Bennett makes sound recordings in a single location. The recordings are then edited together into a short (8 to 12 min.) piece that follows the rhythm of a day from midnight to midnight.

VAPORIZED CITIES. FROZEN MUSIC
The second performance of the Capita Selecta series deals with what gets left behind, rests and remains. Departing from sounds and images of defunct architectures and cities hung in stand-by mode, this project documents music and architecture as uniting elements in search of memory and time.

DECONSTRUCTION OF AN ENSEMBLE
On the first night of the Capita Selecta series three musicians will perform a composition, each in a different room of the Academy of Architecture. By deconstructing the ensemble - through music - different spaces and acoustics simultaneously examined. The Academy is thus introduced as more than an academic knowledge and exchange, but also as a complex acoustic instrument.
